How Covid 19 affect tourism in Malaysia.

Assalamualaikum w.b.t. My name is Shazril Khairy Bin Hj Mustafa. Today i would like to share about crucial issue faced by all countries in worldwide includes Malaysia, it is entitled "Covid 19 affect tourism in Malaysia'.


Year of 2020 was to be the big year for Malaysia's tourism sector. Malaysia is supposedly to welcome tourist either local or from all over the world. Hotels and airlines were expecting millions of guests. There was also advertising drive for the big campaign "Visit Malaysia 2020" was set in motion. Unfortunately, covid affects the most sectors and industries including tourism sector. Tourism is one of the most affected sector due to this pandemic.

First and foremost, the hotel sectors has been hardest hit. In order to flatten the curve of Coronavirus's spreading, government exercise entry ban within states and particularly among countries. These affect torism sector the most. The foreign tourist  could not visit malaysia. Hotels especially at tour places did not received guest. They are struggling to survive thus have to cut wages and give unpaid leaves to the staffs. The worst, many of them could not survive and have to closed their hotels.

Secondly, due to this pandemic, the government did not encourage travelling particularly during Movement Control Order (MCO). These bring big impact to aviation. Most of the airlines company affected and face losses. In fact, one the airline company, Malindo Airline had to terminate 2000 of the workers due to this issue. When the boarder is closed, the foreign tourist could not enter to Malaysia. Even local people could not fly fo other states for tour purpose during MCO.

Next, Covid 19 affect the tourism sector as the standard operation procedure (SOP) was introduced. After MCO ended, the government looses the travel restriction. In fact, the government encourage the citizen to visit places in Malaysia provided that the SOP shall be followed. Among the SOP are the number of visitors at one time are limited, the entry record of premises, operation hour is limited and many more. Thus, although this is better than restrict the travel, some of owner could not afford to pay the rental, and the staffs. The SOP also requires capitals. Thus, Covid 19 bring big impact to tourism sectors.

In conclusion, as the government has loosen the movement restriction, we should try to repair and improve torism sector in Malaysia, provided that the SOP must be followed. We could visit local places and buying local products. These would encourage the economic sector as well as tourism.
